old dirt city roads

a city girl needs the country
but that's just what she emotes
For that peace of mind only....
her eyes drive back and forth
looking to park on my shoulder....Do you have space?
the rest of me gathers cords of wood
and builds a barn fire
supposed to be a bonfire
but that's just what we say
not how we live
not what we tell the state
nor what we do here in the city
where confusion
can get you thinking
you should return with her
to the heart of that farmland
whence you never came

a perfect piece of truth. also: excellent use of whence.

so funny, cause whence came from nowhere out of my mouth in the shower, and then I looked it up to see if I was imagining that it was a word, it was like tucked away in a 8th grade english class lesson in the back of my brain...cool that you liked it...i was freaked by it....not really, and it wasn't really that funny, but ok, enough...

Yes. I like the "parking on my shoulder" bit too. But then I got confused. If she is the city girl, why does she return to the farm land. Oh! Is she leaving him? I really need to get back into writing poetry...

Well no, it's all about thinking there is some place better to go. She never knew the country, but she makes like it's the place to return. Kind of an ode to pretentious wanna get away always people. Like country folk players who live in the city buy act like they are down on the farm. Silly i guess. Sorry for explaining, now that is pretentious.

No--love it! I was thinking, "Jeez, now I'm one'a those people who make artists explain their work." Like the guy in the back of the room at the book-signing who asks what the birds symbolized--and the author says "What birds, you so and so?" Now that is prend-ious!
